Adventist Arguments: The Sabbath Part 4

Adventist Sabbath Argument #4

Just as the seal of the President of the United States has his title and domain given, even so The Sabbath commandment has the seal of the LORD God because it gives His title and domain as well. Therefore, the Sabbath is the seal of God.

My Response:

This assertion borders on the ridiculous since it endeavors to read into a document that is approximately 3500 years old, written in a completely different language and culture, a primarily Western understanding of government. The fact of the matter is, you just can not do that. The Bible does not admit of modern interpretations and must be dealt with on its own terms.

For a Biblical answer regarding the seal of God, the Christian does not need to look any further than the New Testament:

And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit…And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” Ephesians 1:13; 4:30

Hi David,

Your series on "Adventist Arguments: The Sabbath" has been very enlightening to say the least!

You have done an excellent job, and so wonderfully short, sweet, and accurate with this post regarding God's seal!

The sealing by the Holy Spirit and the Spirit as the seal turns up in other scriptures...but I think the scripture you reference is the definitive answer on the matter.

I would be interested to see Adventist responses to this which can faithfully continue to support their interpretation of the seal from scripture and not "cunningly devised" stories.

God bless all!!!
